The scaphoid bone acts as a link between each row; this does, however, make this bone more susceptible to breaks and fractures.
It is a flat thin muscle, located just under the skin and it originates from the flexor retinaculum of the hand - a strong fibrous band that covers the carpal bones on the palmar side of the hand and forms the carpal tunnel - the tubercle of the scaphoid bone and sometimes the tubercle of the trapezium.
The most first inserts onto the lateral aspect of the waist of the scaphoid bone.
The second insertion point is part of the distal 'V' and inserts onto the distal pole of the scaphoid bone.
Long Radiolunate Ligament originates next to the radioscaphocapitate ligament on the palmar lip of the radius bone, supports the proximal pole of the scaphoid bone and inserts onto the palmar horn of the lunate bone.
